Events

MIR offers many educational and fun events throughout the school year to support parent education and build a closer community. Parents and extended families are encouraged to attend.
Back to School Night
This is an opportunity for parents to meet other parents as well as get to know the staff, the Board of Trustees and the PTM Board. PTM also presents their slate of events for the year.
Parent Orientation
Each class holds an orientation for parents. This is an opportunity for parents to meet other parents and to hear teachers give an overview of the Montessori philosophy and ways parents can continue the Montessori program at home. The teachers discuss plans for the year as well as their expectations of students and parents.
Parent Education Nights
MIR provides informative meetings and workshops to parents on topics related to child development and the Montessori theory of education. Typically three of these meetings are held a year, and childcare is often provided. The Head of the School, teachers, and guest speakers present on topics ranging from parenting help to Montessori mathematical materials. Parent attendance to two or more of these evenings is expected.
Parent-Child Night
Usually held in spring, students lead parents through the classrooms and show examples of their work and ways in which they use the class materials.
Journey & Discovery
One Saturday a year the staff invites parents to be a MIR student for the day. Parents work with materials and receive lessons in Toddler, Primary, Elementary and Middle School classes. This event is a MUST for all parents as it offers an opportunity to see the entire Montessori curriculum continuum in one day. Lunch is provided.
Parenting Classes
MIR offers parents the opportunity to enhance their parenting skills. Experts such as Penny Davis taught a 7-week course on Positive Discipline based on the best selling book Positive Discipline by Jane Nelson. This class was so popular that Ms. Davis will again teach this course starting January 16, 2007 (learn more). Jacob Gibson also taught a popular course on Emotional Coach Parenting.
Camp Montessori
Twice a year staff, parents and students camp overnight under the trees of the Montessori campus. Everyone joins around the campfire for songs, stories and fun.
Halloween Party
Each fall families gather to enjoy a Halloween celebration complete with game booths and a costume parade.
Holiday Sing
This is a yearly event performed by the students. Parents, staff, friends and family enjoy song, dance and drama at the University of Redlands Memorial Chapel.
Annual Spring Gala & Auction
This semi-formal fundraising event involves an evening of food and entertainment for parents, staff, and community members. Each class donates a handmade item for the live auction and community/regional businesses donate silent auction items.
Spring Carnival
Families are invited to celebrate spring and the end of the school year with a fun afternoon of game booths, rides, and a petting zoo.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Conferences are held twice a year to provide parents and teachers an opportunity to communicate about a child's growth.
Valediction Ceremony
Our graduating Middle School students are honored in this ceremony held on the last day of the school year.
